ENTRANCE EXAM

COVID-19 ALERT

Due to the pandemic, exams will be held, circumstances permitting.

The situation with COVID-19 is ever-changing and can impact ATIO’s exam schedule, as well as the availability of venues to host exams. In consideration of the ever-evolving rules during the pandemic, and as the province enters Phase 3, ATIO is required to adapt the conditions for in-person exams. This may affect the number of seats available on exam day.

Please be patient as we work towards solutions for the new landscape.

Registration for the Entrance Exam is open!

Entrance Exam

Cost: $295.00 plus tax per language combination

Applicants who register before
January 3, 2023, will pay $282.00 plus tax.

[To register and pay for this event, you must contact the ATIO Secretariat by sending an email to [email protected].]

Once an applicant’s ATIO Application Package is reviewed and accepted by the ATIO Secretariat, applicants in TRANSLATION must successfully pass the Entrance Exam in order to be considered a Candidate for Certification in Translation of ATIO.

Only approved applicants in translation are eligible to write the Entrance Exam. (An “applicant” is a person who has paid the $123 application fee and has been advised that their ATIO Application Package has been reviewed and accepted by the ATIO Secretariat.)

The Entrance Exam is an assessment of an approved applicant in translation’s language and translation skills to test if he or she is qualified to write the Canadian Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters Council (CTTIC) Translation Certification Exam.

The Entrance Exam is a two hour long translation exam where applicants in translation are required to translate a short (175-200 word) general text in the language combination they applied for. Successful applicants are then admitted to ATIO as a Candidate for Certification and are then eligible to write the CTTIC Certification Exam in Translation.

Passing the Entrance Exam does not make an applicant certified.

At this time, no Entrance Exam is required for applicants interested in joining as an Interpreter or Terminologist.
